John Travis General Counsel British
John began his career in 1988 as a corporate lawyer at Sullivan & Cromwell in New York, where his practice primarily comprised international securities offerings, syndicated loans and project financings.
In 1993, John joined Morgan Stanley in London, where he worked for over 20 years in a variety of roles, most recently as Managing Director and Co-head of Global Capital Markets Execution EMEA, and Chairman of the EMEA Equity Underwriting Committee. As an investment banker at Morgan Stanley, John led the execution of more than $161 billion (€118 billion) of capital market transactions for EMEA corporates, financial institutions and governments across 23 countries. As Chairman of Morgan Stanley's EMEA Equity Underwriting Committee, John approved underwriting commitments for over 520 EMEA capital markets transactions.
John’s tenure at Morgan Stanley began in the Law Division, where he was legal advisor to the Investment Banking and Institutional Securities Divisions for six years. From 1999 – 2004, he was a member of the Investment Banking Division, responsible for execution of EMEA equity and high yield financings; and then served as Chief Operating Officer of Global Capital Markets EMEA, with a broad remit to manage the integration of debt and equity capital markets, leveraged finance and the derivative and structured product groups.
